This large decorative vase with interesting sine wave incised design in crystal brown rutile glaze is a great example of North Carolina Southern folk art from Cole Pottery, Sanford, North Carolina turned by Kenneth George, great-grandson of A R Cole. Kenneth has been turning since he was a child working with his grandmother, Neolia, daughter of AR Cole. This beautiful vase is a great example of his turning skill. It is 10 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It is glazed in the pottery's popular matte brown with glossy dark brown rutile glaze called "dull crystal brown". This vase is functional for everyday use and is very collectible piece because of the fine turning, great form, unusual sine wave incised design, interesting glaze and mint condition. It is made of red clay in the tradition of earlier Cole potters and has no chips, dings, cracks or repairs. It is hand signed "Kenneth George 7-7-2006, Sanford, NC" and stamped with two Cole Pottery circular stamps. One has "AA" hand written in the center of the incised stamp in remembrance of his step-son and the other has the number "4" written in the center to denote that 4 pounds of clay were used in making the vase. It weighs between five and six pounds carefully packed for secure shipment by Priority Mail. Insurance is required. See payment instructions below. Please email any questions.
