Large Daguerreotype Brooch. Solid Gold Frame. c1850's Pleased to offer this large daguerreotype brooch of a infant set in a 10K solid gold puff back frame. Brooch is large enough to also be hung on a wall as t is a loop on a hinge on the back. Dag is in good condition but has some surface scratches and some tarnish around the edges with image better seen when held at a angle to light. The gold frame weighs 13.7 grams of solid 10k gold and 34.7 grams total weight with the dag, beveled glass and bezel. All findings on the back are also solid gold. Brooch measures 3 1/8in. x 2 3/8in. dating to the 1840-50's timeframe being in excellent condition with no repairs. This is the earliest type of photograph and tfore these large dag brooches attest to the novelty of the technology soon to be downsized then out of fashion then relegated to walls and photo albums.
