This is one of last great uncut nodules of Utah variscite from the Lucin mine in my collection. The material was originally obtained from a collection over 25 years old. That explains the richness of the variscite in this piece which is easily over 75% variscite with very little chert matrix. Pieces like this just don't come out of the mine anymore, which is mostly defunct. More info on Lucin variscite and the mine is found on wikipedia. Check out the exposed piece of gem silica emerald variscite practically dripping from the side picture, hinting at the quality of variscite inside. The pictures mostly speak for themselves. This is a very solid piece. It had been sitting exposed outside for nearly 25 years and still has incredible solidity. No waste on this piece except for the few pieces of chert on the very outside of the nodule. Even cuts with the chert matrix inside will make some great cabs with chert matrix.
