A large early 19th century COPPER SAMOVAR, from the Regency period, having an overall height of 17 ins, width of 13 ins and a depth of 12 ins. The item features a gradooned decorated lid with unusual gun metal finial. The top of the oval shaped main body has circles of embossed and fluted gun metal decoration. The twin bone handles are held to the main body by fluted gun metal brackets. The tap is of brass. The main body is joined to the base by a most unusal square shaped stem having applied rosette decoration to the four sides. The gun metal base is of square platform shape with 4 bun feet. The samovar is in reasonably good used condition with several dings and minor dents more particularly to the base of the main body and only visable when turning the item upside down. The lid, which is stamped on the underside 'BEST LONDON MANUFACT', appears to have a replacement rim on the underside resulting it not being quite a perfect fit. Also one of the nut caps on the tap handle is a replacement (evident in photos). Other than these no other replacements or repairs are evident. The item, which has a lovelly rich patina, does not have a interior heating tube. Because of the items weight of 5.7 kgs overseas buyers are advised to ask for postage and packing costs before bidding.
