On that day, catcher Norm Sherry's 11th inning home run gave the victory to the Dodgers and his relief pitcher brother, Larry. They would form this combination several times during the years between 1960 and 1962. Norm's career began in 1959 with the Dodgers and concluded in 1963 with the New York Mets. It was Norm Sherry who advised Sandy Koufax to slow up his fastball to gain better control of his pitching. The rest is history. Larry Sherry was a standout for the Dodgers in the 1959 World Series against the Chicago White Sox. Larry won two games and saved two as the Dodgers claimed their first world championship in Los Angeles. Larry would go on to pitch for the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros and California Angels before retiring in 1968.
