This is one of my large S heepsfoot caping knives, made from .214"thick 5160 spring/tool steel. T he finishing process will have removed some thousandths. I hand forge the taper to the edge in, then finish grind, oil harden, temper to 600F., and polish them. Carbon steel must be cared for and will patina with use, so i now offer (and suggest) Parkerizing free of charge. Parkerizing is a corrosion resistant Zinc Phosphate coating commonly used on military equipment. It doesn't make them pretty, but it does make them practical. It is 9" overall and 4&1/2" tip to wood with 4&1/2" actual sharpened edge. The Katalox scales are a little softer than most of the woods i use, but it was chosen for it's beautiful prismatic figuring. They are polished and finished with an Orange oil/beeswax combo, have hand inlet brass hardware bedded in epoxy, and are removable. ALL my knives are HAND FORGED by ME in AMERICA. I hope you get my drift.
