Wonderful Mexican Cinco (5) Pesos 30 gramos (grams) SILVER COIN Near MINT, Starting near its BULLION VALUE. Brilliant Uncirculated. - No Reserve - This 1948 coin is documented on govmint (Thanks govmint). There it says, "The splendor of the Aztec empire lives on in this amazing legal tender coin from Mexico. Struck in 30 grams of .900 fine silver, this epic coin pays tribute to Cuauhtemoc, the last king of the Aztec Empire. Cuauhtemoc was captured by Spanish conquistadors in 1521 and later executed for suspicion of treason. Not only does this 1948-dated coin weigh 12 percent more than a U.S. dollar, but at 40 mm in diameter it's also larger. Today, Cuauhtemoc is one of the most revered figures in Mexican history, and this coin is a fitting - and beautiful - tribute to his memory." I also found a curios story at worldcrowns . There someone said "The Texas Rangers use this coin to make their badges. On the front the[y] re-finish it to read Dpt. Public Safety Rangers. But on the back you can clearly see the original coin stamp that reads 'Estados Unidos Mexicanos'. I find that interesting." From the back we have the Coat of Arms of Mexico. This features the enduring icon of Mexico. It appears to be an eagle vanquishing a snake. The front (what I would consider the front) shows Cuauhtemoc, the last Aztec king. It's almost pure read more
