Ibought this in 2010 from a major international seller of IndianBronzes. The description was: “ Late 19 th century. Indian Bronze Shiva Lingam Shrine (Folk Art) A lovely late 19 th century image of a Shiva Lingam shrine. Here we see the Linga image of Shiva in the centre on top of a Joni (the feamile aspect, the Linga being the male aspect. To the left is his Vahana, Nandi, and to the right a protecting cobra. Just by the side of the Nadi is a pile and pandi pandi for offering to Shiva. Obvious signs of worship and some bronze lost on the base below the cobra but in excellent condition.” Height = 5.0 cm; width = 5.5 cm; depth = 2.9 cm. This is similar to an object shown in Edward Moor’s The Hindu Pantheon , published in 1861. [Note: Book cover and figure are shown for information only; the book is not part of this auction.] I’ve been collecting bronze [or brass] Hindu gods and deities and related statues, figures and objects from India for several years, though I’ll claim no expertise on the topic. I’ll be selling a number of items during the coming months. The quality and rarity varies – as does my knowledge of the pieces. I’ll sometimes quote from previous listing descriptions. I ship on Monday and Friday. I am happy to combine shipping to save costs.
