the LBJ hat: vintage STETSON OPEN ROAD from HIS HOME TOWN, Johnson City, Texas Much is made of the fact that Stetson's famous Open Road model, popular from the 1940's through the 1960's, was a favorite of several residents of the White House, notably the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson was from Texas , of course, which makes his choice of the western-style Open Road all the more appropriate. And when he became President, that made a connection worth capitalizing on—for example, for the people who sold Stetsons in LBJ's home town of Johnson City. 's a classic Open Road for your collection, dating no doubt to the years of Johnson's presidency (1963-1969), and the folks at O&S Dry Goods have indeed inscribed HOME TOWN OF LYNDON B. JOHNSON right t on the leather sweatband! Aside from that nice historic touch , this is a nice example of the marque, with its 3X beaver felt construction of a light beige color (what Stetson called Silverbelly) with matching 3/8" grosgrain ribbon hatband and matching trim on the 2 1/2" brim. It's even got the auxiliary wind trolley cord —the button-on-an-elastic-cord that secures the hat to your buttonhole during gusty weather. The rancher-style crown stands 4 3/4" high.
