Le Coureur 1776 Wood Model Ship KitLuger "Le Courier" was built at Dunkirk in 1776, two years before the outbreak of war between England and France. Since 1775 in America 13 rebellious provinces began to fight for independence. By 1778 the war in America has acquired a mass character and 6 February the self-proclaimed United States concluded a treaty of alliance with France. As a result, France has brought England ultimatum, demanding to remove British troops from America and the recognition of the independence of the United States. The ultimatum was of a political nature - neither King of France nor his ministers at the time did not see this is no reason for declaring war England.The reason of the real conflict was the incident in the English Channel June 17, 1778. This day, the French frigate "La Belle Poule" conducted reconnaissance of the British fleet.
