2 RARE WORLD WAR II AERIAL MAPS OF LE MOLAY AIR FIELD, NORMANDY FRANCE ALG A-9. 834th Engineering Aviation Battalion. Ninth Air Force. Le Molay, Normandy, France . The maps are dated June 22, 1944 and July 4, 1944, and were based on photographs that were taken over Normandy on June 21, 1944 (just 2 weeks after the D-Day invasion). The maps measure 22 by 28.5 inches and 29 by 20 inches (each printed on one side only). The maps depict the air field, from different elevations, and include detailed views of the runway, supply service roads, railroad tracks, gas and ammunition bivouacs, etc. One map is stamped "CONFIDENTIAL." The airfield was known as ALG A-9-- Advanced Landing Ground A-9.Both maps are creased at old folds, with some early soiling and wear, one blank panel more heavily soiled. No chips or tears-- still very good condition for maps produced just weeks after D-Day. Le Molay Airfield (ALG A-9)was established as a temporary airfield after D-Day, on June 21, 1944. It was one of the first airfields established in the liberated area of Normandy. It was in use from June-September, 1944.We have been a family business for more than 30 years.
