Here is a lovely set of 2 Black Amethyst Depression Glass cups & saucers, in the Mt Pleasant ~ Double Shield Pattern, made by the L.E. Smith Co., c. late 1920's - 1934. At 1st glance these pieces appear to be black but when held up to a bright light you can see the purplish hues. The cups measure 2-1/4" high by 3-3/4" wide. They have the double shield pattern under the handle and on the opposite side as well. The plates have the point, large scallop, double point, large scallop pattern around the edge and measure 6-1/4" wide. The backside is plain. On the internet is a nice article about LE Smith, black amethyst glass and the Mt Pleasant pattern by Rosemary Trietsch of the National Depression Glass Association. We have other pieces in our store that match this pattern. If multiple items are bought please wait until we combine shipping and adjust the invoice before paying. CONDITION All cups and saucers are in very fine condition with NO chips or cracks. The black glass does show very light scratches under a bright light.
