Please read the detail section below for more information. Details: Features: Specifications: Uniqueness - Handcrafted?: The picture is carved by hand on a NATURAL LEAF. No two leaves are identicial and coupled with hand carving makes each a unique one of a kind gift. Leaves can resemble each other but no two leaves are identicial. Handcarving never results in exactly the same duplicate result - similar but an exactly duplicate. What is Leaf Carving?: Leaf Carving is performed by a skilled Chinese crafts person who uses a small knife and brush to cut the picture through the leaf surface without cutting the leaf's vein structure. The process is cut then brush and repeat until the picture is fully carved History: The Chinese developed Leaf Carving into the modern day form of art. Older and ancient leaf carvings were carved into a green leaf and had all but the major veins of the leaf removed. The subject of ancient style Leaf Carvings were more simplistic and not as complex in picture structure design as the modern day leaf carvings. Even in modern day China , there are crafts persons and artists who still carve leaves the ancient way in the ancient style. Leaf Processing: Before the leaf is carved the leaf undergoes washing, pressing, drying and curing. The result is elimination of both mold and mildew spores and the brittleness associated with dry leaves.The total process from start to finish is a 60 step process. The end product is soft when touched. The leaf carvings can be touched and felt by a human hand. Long fingernails and acid can be an enemy of the carving - fingernails can cut the veins and body acid can alter the remaining leaf surface. Always wash hands before touching and use caution with fingernails. Leaf Used: Chinar Leaf: Grows in India and Southern China. Other varities of leaves are used in addition to the Chinar Leaf. Size: Measured on Leaf Carving being offered: 9 3/8" Tall - from bottom leaf stem to top point of the leaf, 9 1/8 inches wide from left tip to right tip. Leaf Picture: Leaf Carvings without text are reversible. Unfortunately "Always Remembered" needs to be mounted exactly as pictured in order for text being able to read and for the proper orientation of the WTC to the Statue of Liberty. * Product of China : Other ethnic populations paint on leaves. Only the Chinese have the skill and craftsmanship to carve a picture into a leaf. If you or someone in your household is allergic to smoke - Please Consider Before Placing a BID or purchasing.
