RARE ANTIQUE Leatherbound Merriam & Webster's Unabridged dictionary. Published in 1890, this beautiful book set the standard for all other dictionaries to follow. "New Edition, with Supplement. An American Dictionary of the English Language by Noah Webster, LL. D., Revised and Enlarged by Chauncey A. Goodrich, D.D. and Noah Porter, D.D., LL.D. With an appendix of useful tables, to which is added a supplement of nearly five thousand new words, with their definitions, etc." Book was published in Springfield, Mass by G. & C. Merriam & Co, State Street, 1890. This dictionary also includes illustrations throughout the entire book, and also includes a large supplement which gives illustrations for a variety of objects and living things...most notably, the human anatomy. BOOK MEASURES 11.5" x 9.5" x 4", so it is a very large and heavy book (around 11 pounds!) Binding has NOT detached from its leather backing. The only flaw is a small stain near the spine in the middle of the pages at the beginning of the book, and the embossed cloth hard cover on the back has started to peel from the edges on the back. Indented letter reference tabs are in good condition, only missing letters T, W & Y. All other letter index tab stickers are present. Overall, this is a wonderful example of late 19th century bookbinding, and will be a tremendously valuable read more
