OK, Let's be honest ...The likelihood that you're interested in this 13 volume set of books is for their use as "furniture" (as interior designers would say) NOT because you want to read them. They will make a nice appearance. Published in 1886 in (Brown) 3/4 Leather with gilt tops, marbled endpaprs, and somewhat of a deckle edge to the paper - BEACON LIGHTS OF HISTORY by JOHN LORD will make you think that Carson just took them off the shelf at Downton Abbey! 13 Volumes - published by James Clarke & Co., New York, each volume is 6" across and 8.6" high. The leather binding has raised bands, small leaf decorations in the top and bottom panels, gilt stamped lettering. The color in the very first picture, and in pics 3 & 4 is most accurate - a warm brown, Pic 2, the lighting was a bit different. The hinges are tight and no signs of cracks - You'll feel, as we do, they've never been opened. (Quite frankly, who reads this stuff anyway!?) They weigh 32 pounds - that's boxed weight. eBay prevents us from showing more than $4.00 in postage, but it costs almost $20.00 by media mail (thus, it's within the price you'd pay - not extra) We've shown a typical title page from Vol. 13 and the frontispiece. Each vol. has a color or b/w frontispiece. Each and every spine that you're looking at is just about perfect. We found a couple volumes that
