For your consideration from the estate of Lemp heiress, horsewoman, and sociallite Elsa Lemp Wright is a stunning Antique Collectible Handcrafted Ornate Coral Brooch. This lovely brooch from the early 1900's measures approximately 2.5 "W x 1.5"H and is in excellent vintage used condition. It is unmarked so we don't know the maker or if it's sterling, but it looks and feels like sterling. It's definitely a high quality brooch with beautiful ornate designs on both the front and back, set off by an exquisite coral centerpiece. W hoever made the brooch did an outstanding job and was obviously a highly skilled artisan. From all accounts it was one of Elsa's favorite brooches and is in Troy Taylor's book, Suicides & Spirits, The True Story Of The Rise & Fall Of The Lemp Empire. Elsa J. Lemp was the youngest child of William J. Lemp & Julia Feickert Lemp. She was a Lemp heiress and sociallite and when Julia died in 1906, Elsa became the wealthiest unmarried woman in St. Louis. She loved going out with her sister-in-law and friend Lillian Handlin Lemp. She was also active in the Women's Suffrage Movement and was an accomplished equestrian. In 1910, she married Thomas Wright President of the Moore-Jones Brass & Metal Co. Like her siblings, Elsa travelled extensively both nationally and internationally. On August 8,1914 her daughter Patricia Lemp Wright was born and died the same day. When Elsa died mysteriously March 20, 1920 she was only 37 years old.
