This auction is for a rare, denim banner which was also called a sunscreen. These were given to Levi retailers in the early 1950's to display on their walls or to put in the windows to prevent sun damage and fading to the mercha ndise. This banner was displayed in a retail store in Detroit, Mich. and then put in storage many years ago. Photos of this banner were sent to the historian at Levi Strauss to confirm the authenticity which they confirmed plus gave us some added information about how retailers used these banners.Fortunately, in this situation, this banner was displayed on the interior of the store which explains why it is in such good shape. Any banners displayed in the windows would have been destroyed by the sun over the years which explains why these are so rare. This banner is in excellent shape. The color is deep and rich. It has some very slight lines from folding and some blemishes and marks from age. It measures 28" high and 71" long. This is an excellent opportunity for Levi collectors to own a piece of Levi Strauss history that is very colorful, very durable, and would make an eye-catching display at the home, office, store, or museum.Insurance will be paid for by the seller. Shipping is via priority first class mail (2-3 day delivery).
