Levi Woodbury of New Hampshire was elected to the House of Representatives from 1825 to 1831, he served as secretary of the Navy from 1831 to 1834, Secretary of the Treasury from 1834 to 1841, the House of Representatives from 1841 to 1846 and the Supreme Court from 1845 to 1851. The August 12, 1831 letter concerns Naval matters.
