This is a specimen of Libyan Desert Glass from the Great Sand Sea near the Egypt-Libya border. It is a type of Tektite, which in turn is an Impactite—the result of a meteorite, asteroid, or comet impact (at least this is the leading theory). The extraterrestrial visitor striking the Earth 28.5 million years ago melted the ground turning it into molten glass with a high silica content. The ancients valued it as a gemstone--a polished cabochon of Libyan Desert Glass adorns the center of an elaborate piece of jewelry found in King Tut’s tomb. This specimen of Libyan Desert Glass is a pale yellow color. It is a bit more transparent than the photos show. Note: The exportation of Libyan Desert Glass is now restricted so take this opportunity to get a specimen while there is supply and the price is low. This specimen measures 2.4cm by 2cm by .7cm. It weighs 2.5 grams. I combine shipping with other purchases or auction wins. INTERNATIONAL METEORITE COLLECTORS ASSOCIATION Authenticity GUARANTEED *
