Briones" sold with frame board without frame measures 15 x 12.25 inches or 38 x 31 centimeters Please view all photographs About Fernando Briones (1905 - 1988) Briones was a well-known painter and engraver, he studied painting at the same school where he would later become drawing professor, the Fine Arts School in Madrid, Spain. He was a disciple of Cecilio Plá and Manuel Benedito, and was also taught by José Moreno Carbonero and Julio Romero de Torres. His masterful skill with a brush was recognised with two second prizes at National Exhibitions in 1932 and 1934. Most notable on his résumé was the first prize at the II Painting Competition, in 1950, under the auspices of Unión Española de Explosivos, for “Brujo” (Sorcerer). His work’s varying themes, encompassed portraits, landscapes, flower vases, still lifes and advertising posters such as those made for the Government of the Spanish Republic during the Civil War.
