This small plastic lifeboat is a retired earlier version of the collection devices the RNLI used to gather donations for their all volunteer lifesaving efforts in England, Scotland, and Ireland. These little lifeboat replicas were found in pubs, restaurants, and public places to collect coins and notes from people thank full of the work that the RNLI does. Founded in 1824, over 140,000 lives have been saved by this non-government organization. At first, volunteers set off from a stormy beach in small boats rowing out to save sailors whose ships had foundered on rocky shores. Now the RNLI operates with powerful rescue boats or specialized RIBs. Their present day collection devices represent their newer vessels but can still be found in the local pub. This model is 12 1/2" long, 4 1/4" high, and 4 1/4" wide and weighs 11 oz. Underneath the base a screw driver can be used to open the bottom and release the donations. This is a colorful nautical collectible in very good condition.
