Beautiful and Rare! Four Layer Antique Venetian Glass Chevron Trading Beads These beautiful six layer chevron beads would make a great surprise gift for that "someone" special in your life! The production of Venetian trade beads goes back as far as the 12th century in Venice, Italy. There the Glassmaker's Guild produced an early form of chevron (sometimes called "rosetta") beads made with 4 -7 layers of wound glass. These beads were commissioned by wealthy merchants as trade beads, but were very costly and time consuming to make each one individually. These four ayer beads were most likely produced in the early 1900's in Venice and traded in West Africa. The larger bead is 30mm long and about 22mm wide. Bevel ground on the ends to reveal the red/white/blue star pattern. The smaller beads are approximately 20mm long and 15mm wide. Payment We hold your purchase for 48 hours after the auction.
