This is a Linkman's Dr. Grabow "Supreme Bruyere" Model No. "9400" bearing "Pat. No. 1896800." The story of Linkman's pipes goes back to 1898 when Louis B. Linkman organized M. Linkman & Co. to manufacture smoking pipes in Chicago. In 1933 Linkman, seeking a way to make pipes easier to break in came up with a system wby pipe bowls were pre-smoked by a machine and the Dr. Grabow legend was launched. T has been some debate about w Linkman acquired the Dr. Grabow name. Some say he simply wanted to name his new pre-smoked model after a doctor. Others claim a Dr. Paul E. Grabow, who also lived in Chicago and was a friend of Linkman's, lent his name to the pipe in exchange for a lifetime supply of free pipes. Whatever the case, the Dr. Grabow label stuck and Linkman produced the Linkman's Dr. Grabow pipes until 1955 when the brand was sold to a Sparta, N.C., company who later sold it to Lane Ltd. Dr. Grabow pipes are still manufactured in the Carolina mountains. This Zulu or Woodstock-style Linkman has the early shovel style drinkless mechanism used in the 1930s. It has the the Linkman symbol - a white circle intersected by a white line logo - embedded in the stem. I don't smoke dirty pipes, tfore I don't sell dirty pipes.
