This Extremely Rare Lionel 1587S Girls' Set was originally sold in 1957 and 1958. It was an attempt to broaden the appeal of toy trains to girls by offering a train with a pink engine and tender and several pastel colored freight cars. The attempt failed; not many were sold; and pastel colors were mostly discontinued. Today, it is one of the most valued Lionel sets in existence. This set includes the powered 2037-500 Pink Steam Locomotive w/Smoke, 1130T-500 Pink Lionel Lines Tender, 6436-500 Lilac Lehigh Valley Hopper, 6462-500 Pink NYC Canister Car w/canisters, 6464-510 Pastel Green NYC Pacemaker Car, 6464-515 Pastel Yellow MKT Boxcar, 6427-500 Pastel Blue Pennsylvania Porthole Caboose, and the 1043-500 White 60 Watt Transformer.This item has been graded per TCA standards C-5: Good. All cars have been repainted. Several cars are not original to this set. There are a few scratches and nicks on these items. The instruction manual is not included.
