This is a pair Lionel 6-16375 New York Central Flat Cars -- one in common yellow and the other in RARE ORANGE. This auction includes one yellow flatcar with bulkheads, and one orange flatcar with trailer. The rare orange version was first discovered about 20 years ago, and to date, only about 10 are known to exist. It originated with a group of other oddball cars that could be traced back to a former Lionel employee. I was able to verify this story, and the rare car is a genuine factory-produced item. There's no way to fake the orange car from a yellow one. Unfortunately, the exact reason WHY it was produced may never be known.*** Be sure to see my other auctions for a similar 6-16922 Chesapeake & Ohio Flatcar in Orange. ***The 16375 New York Central Flatcar normally has an unpainted yellow body, and comes equipped with bulkheads and stakes. It was issued as part of the 11735 NYC Flyer train set which was produced over many years starting in 1993.The unusual version is painted orange (over an orange-molded body) and hot-stamped in black just like the regular yellow version. Note that the yellow body is from the postwar 6511 (stake-body) mold, whereas the orange car is from the postwar 6424 tool. The orange flatcar with trailer has die-cast metal sprung trucks. It's in Like New condition, with just a few light marks from handling. The read more
