Description: Lionel 2026-54XP Steam Chest - Above you will find a single-view picture of a Lionel 2026-54XP Steam Chest, used in engine 1951 and later production. This last version was designed to accommodate the 2037-500 as well as the 2016, 2018 and 2029.Most people aren't aware of the fact that Lionel die-cast four versions of the 2026 steam chest prior to the one pictured above in late 1951. T were four 2026-54 Steam Chests, first modified in 1949 to remove the rear bar, though it retained the circular cutout for the smoke piston. The next version (late 1949 and all of 1950) omitted the circular cut out and made a small adjustment for use with the 2036 (also black oxide finish). The next version appeared in 1951 (and only in 1951) with two rear nubs to make motor mounting more versatile. It could then accommodate the 2026, 2036 and 2037. This version was also black oxide coated. The last version, to accommodate the 2037-500 as well as the 2016, 2018 and 2029 was essentially the same as the previous version, but painted black as opposed to having a black oxide finish.
