THE LIONEL CORPORATION PRODUCED ITS FIRST MILWAUKEE ROAD IN 1955. THE ORANGE STRIPE ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE CAB WAS DIFFICULT TO MASK FOR PAINTING SO THE CAB WAS PAINTED SOLID BLACK SOON AFTER THE FIRST PRODUCTION RUN OF THIS ENGINE. THE MILWAUKEE ROAD LOGO IS STAMPED ON THE SIDE OF THESE EARLY ENGINES AND DID NOT ADHERE WELL TO THE ORANGE PAINT. THE BLACK WAS PAINTED ON THE ORANGE SHELL AND WAS EASILY RUBBED OFF LEAVING THE ORANGE PLASTIC BOLDLY SHINING THROUGH THE BLACK PAINT. THIS ENGINE HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR OVER THE YEARS AND DOES NOT HAVE THE ORANGE RUB MARKS. THE NUMBERS "2338" ARE ALSO IN BLACK. THIS UNIT IS LIKE NEW AND A HIGH QUALITY COLLECTOR GRADE PIECE, C-8. IT COMES WITH ITS ORIGINAL BOX, C-10, PAPER AND INSTRUCTIONS FROM 1955. (SEE PICTURES). PLEASE NOTICE THE "X" INDICATING A SEPARATE SALE ITEM. THIS UNIT WAS NEVER SOLD IN A SET AND MUST HAVE THE STAMP INDICATING A SEPARATE SALE ITEM IN ORDER TO BE AUTHENTIC. I PURCHASED THIS ENGINE IN 1980 FROM ITS ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE KEPT IT ON THE SHELF EVER SINCE.
This pristine black and orange beauty is rich in color and has an outstanding rubber stamped logo. This is a real rarity and in this condition it will sell for $3000 OR MORE at prime auctions and collector shows. Please consider the difficulty of finding a piece in this condition, age and rarity as the driving forces of its value. We are below the market value with our reserve. Have you ever seen one this nice? Good luck if you choose to bid and email me if you have questions or need more pictures or information. I will be happy to assist you in any way I can.
