SCALEROLLING STOCK Lionel #27372 Pacific Fruit Express Steel-Sided Orange Reefer 3 Pack released in 2008. The cars feature: Steel-sided Refrigerator Cars During the 1930s, car companies first began using steel in constructing refrigerator cars to keep perishable freight cool with ice in the days before mechanical refrigeration. Many of these cars ran through the 1960s. Our newest reefers highlight two distinct door styles. A single plug door can be seen on the NYC and Dubuque cars. And for the first time, Lionel is also offering a unique two-door system which utilized both a plug door and a narrower hinged door. The smaller hinged door allowed workers to inspect the contents of a car without losing precious refrigerated air from the interior.
