Baltimore & Ohio Lionel Diesel Switcher 6-28539 Never run, Mint in Box Here is a great LIONEL 6-28539 B&O ALCO S-2 DIESEL SWITCHER, stored unused in its box since it was purchased. According to the box end, this unit has: ...Odyssey system speed control ...Command equipped ...Electrocouplers ...Railsound ...Crewtalk ...Towercom Pretty impressive list of features I think (I am NOT a train collector so know relatively little about this). Crewtalk? You can hear the engineer cracking jokes and complaining about his mother-in-law while your train hurtles around the basement?? There ARE two plastic guys you can see in the cab like teeny-tiny GI Joe figures. This is a cool looking switch engine. This should work on "O" gauge Lionel and similar tracks and setups. The locomotive is still in its plastic bag, opened for display during the auction and for its photo session. The operating instructions and papers are still in the box. In one of the compartments is an original sealed plastic bag containing a plastic overlay for all the functions, and a tube of something- hard to see inside. The original blue "lifting ribbbons" are in place, really a good idea as the engine and styrofoam padding fits VERY tightly in its styrofoam coffin. It comes with the original box, original plastic bag and fitted styrofoam "holders". I left those styrofoam protector sheets in place along the sides of the engine as they were tightly wedged in, just as placed by some worker in China, or Mexico, or wherever Lionel builds trains now. You will have to assume the engine is just as pretty under the styrofoam as are the parts exposed in the photo. The engine appears to me to have never been run- I see no signs of wear on the wheels or anywhere, and I am sure anyone running it would have removed the styrofoam. I am not a collector of trains, and do not have testing facilities for this- I can only describe it as I see it. This was part of a massive collection sold at auction after the owner's sudden death. According to the auction house, he had amassed a collection of over 1000 lionel locomotives and cars, all packed into his single-wide mobile home!! He bought them and stored them in their original boxes, and apparently never ran them- just let them pile up. I can't imagine where he could have set up even a minimum layout in a trailer or even display them in showcases. Some boxes were never opened, still in shrink wrap- others were opened at some time perhaps to admire what was inside. He also had some obviously used older steam-engines and cars that he purchased at auctions, but the vast majority of pieces were still in original boxes and wraps, dating from the 1970s to just past 2000. I'm sure this should be lubricated before trying it out after sitting for some years. Email with any questions or if you need more details. ~CONDITION~ I see no wear, paint rubs, chips, or anything other than what you would see if you opened the box straight from buying it in the train store. I have a series of photos below. I would grade it Mint with orginal box, opened only for photos. The box is complete and clean, showing only a slightly bumped corner. The flaps are complete.
