Up for Sale is a beautiful 1948-1949 era 726 Berkshire with 2426W tender with boxes and master carton I bought this engine last fall from the original owner's family. It was wrapped in newspaper that was dated from 1952 so I doubt it has been used much since then. The engine is in great shape with very few paint nicks. The number stamping is clear and legible. The rods are nice and shiny and the rollers show very little run time. The tender is also in great shape. The lettering is strong and the rollers on here also show very little wear. I test ran the engine and it ran in both directions. The whistle in the tender works but sounds like one side of the whistle may be stopped up with dust because the whistle sounds like only one tone is coming out. I would recommend a cleaning a lube job on this engine as the grease is probably dried up since it was stored for so many years. The boxes are there but have some issues. Part of one flap on the master carton is missing and the carton is open on both ends. The engine box is nice and is still sealed on one end. IInterestingly, it marked 726X and I am not sure what the X signifies for this particular box. It is missing the insert for the locomotive. The tender box is missing all the flaps on one end. The end flap that is present has some tape on it. Overall, a great engine and tender read more
