Up for auction today are two Lionel Scout type engines and tenders. These vintage engines were introduced by Lionel in 1948. Both of the engines are in good condition and run great. The first engine in the offering is the heavy die cast 2-4-2 Lionel Lines #1655 and its #6654W associated tender. The engine is in good conditon with only minor playwear consistent with an engine over 60 years old. It has a black painted metal body, silver rubber stamped numbers and a decorative nickel whistle and bell. It has metal side and main rods as well as crossheads. Sliding shoes are used for electrical pickup and a three position E-unit controls the direction of travel. The engine has an operating headlight and green marker lights. It also comes with a very nice metal Lionel Lines #6654W whistling tender. The tender has a great sounding working whistle, dual pickups and magnetic couplers. Both the engine and tender are complete with no rust and run great. They grade C-7. The second engine in the offering is Lionels first plastic bodied steam locomotive, a 2-4-2 numbered 1001. This engine, with its detailed boiler, was used as the motive power for Lionels Scout set. The body is unpainted black plastic with metal side rods and tubular brass contact rollers. It has Baldwin disc drive wheels, a two posiiton reverse unit and an operating headlight. read more
