The Lionel New Haven FA No. 209 is the rarest of the Alcos that would be issued by Lionel in the post-war period. Available only in 1958, it headed up the top-of-the-line 027 set this year, and because of this, it was not manufactured in large quantitites.Produced on a BLACK body with ORANGE and WHITE stripes and lettering, this diesel was equipped with a horn. The power unit was equipped with a light, and a single vertical worm drive Type IIE motor that powered two axles and utilized Magnetraction. This engine had a three position directional unit whose control lever was adjustable from the top of the body. Both units used a sheet metal chassis that have solid non-operating couplers. There are no variations. All of the Lionel Alco FA units are designed to work on the tighter radius of O27 gauge track, but they will run equally well on O gauge track. This is the dummy model of the 2 models released, NOT the locomotive.
