Lionel Post War#221 Die Cast Steam Engine w/ #221 Metal Whistle Tender train set The 221 Dreyfuss steam locomotive was modeled after the famous NewYork Central streamlined Hudson conceived by the distinguished industrial designer, Henry Dreyfuss. The bullet nose and distinctive protruding fin reflected the trend of railroad companies in the 1930s to upgrade and modernize their motive power into futuristic, sleek-looking engines. Although somewhat under-sized in terms of scale, many collectors and operators covet the 221. The charm of this unique-looking locomotive is unmatched by any other Lionel postwar offering. Clean examples of this steamer -- especially ones with original and completely intact tender decals are somewhat rare. Original owner.Engine & Tender are in Excellent but Slight dirty Condition. Okay its Christmas 1946 and you just ran down stairs and get to ripping and shredding through the gifts. AND THERE IT IS! The top of the line train set you have been bugging Mom and Dad for. After You and your parents clean up the carnage you drag dad down to the floor and start building. Dad of course moans and groans but as we grew up he was just as excited about “his” umm your new toy. I'm sure many of us have this same memory burned into are brains yet many of us let go of ours toys many years ago. But Not my friend. He is the original owner and when he decided to finally go through all the stuff he has gathered this train was the one item …....................He had to see run one more time. So now imagine and older gent on his hands and knees as memories of his past youth go through his head. With the smell of arcing electricity in the air he fires her up and like she did 70 or so years ago she comes to life. Okay enough creative writing let get down to business. This auction is for a Post war 1946, 027 scale Cast Steam Engine with a Metal Whistle Tender Set. The train comes with Six total cars and I believe Five are from the original set. The others was added in the 50's. Comes with a complete set of track, Car unloader and Uncoupling track with a working controller, A red diamond Uncoupler. It has the original #1041 Transformer that came with the set and a type 1073 Transformer. Both work tested by the original owner. The owner went and bought some new coupling pins and a Universal Power lock-on to set up and run the train. There is also a original instruction book that the owner will include in the set ( He forgot it when he brought the train over to my house. Note all the cars are in found condition and have not been cleaned. There is dust and dirt that should clean up nicely. All rail trucks in excellent condition no worn or loose wheels. Light bulb is broken but the holder is intact and in fine condition. Track pick up is slightly worn but makes great contact. Overall condition Excellent plusWhistle tender # 221-w 1946 Die cast Metal. Paint is excellent with little if any wear the New York Central paint are missing about a half on each side. One screw on the under carriage looks to have been replaced. Overall condition Excellent plus.Caboose # 2472 1946 All die cast metal Pennsylvania 4777618 Eastern Div, Red Caboose. The paint color is very good there is light paint loss considering the age of the car.
