Lionel(prewar) #165 triple action magnetic crane · Magnificentaccessory produced only from 1940 – 42. · Crane is a 1940 model with a rare grey painted platform with an equally rare die cast metal base, the only year produced with this combination. Note: Silver platform and plastic base are more common. · Crane rotates 360 degrees – magnet raises/lowers and is energized through controller. · Original motor is the “OO” series and has been totally checked out. Armature, brushes, field windings, motor housing and bushings, brush plate, have all been cleaned and checked for resistance and continuity. All brass and drive gears, shifting solenoids, brass synchronizers, have been cleaned, polished, and all parts lubricated with a multi climate lubricant. Additionally, the entire piece has been cleaned and all paraffin based lubricants removed. · Magnet is very strong (see photo) · Original cloth insulated wire is in excellent condition. · The controller is in excellent condition with no chips or breaks. Controller (6) strand wire is in good condition, flexible, no cracked insulation. · There is no rust, and appears to have been well taken care of. Paint is in very good condition considering its age, with only a few small chips and scratches. · Crane is original except for replacement controller FC6 strand wire. This #165 crane read more
