Up for auction is a great collectable for the Lionel enthusiast. Offered today for review is Lionel’s Silver Star Train set which was marketed in the 1970’s. I believe actually 1972 since two of the cars are marked with that date. This is set # 6-1183. It features “The Mighty Sound of Steam”. The set has been used and all the cars appear to be in Very Good condition. They look almost new showing very little wear. The box shows decent color and graphics and in good shape considering its age but does show some wear having a couple of side crunches with some masking tape marks. This has 027 type of track and has the following pieces included: Steam Engine # 8141, Tender , Hopper # CN 9013, Flat Car # UP 9020 (there are stakes in the box but I did not count them), Gondola Car # 9136, Caboose # PC 9062, 12 curved pieces of track, 4 straight pieces of track, 1 90 degree crossover, 1 Trainmaster transformer, Misc. Parts and Connection wire. It appears the two crew figures and instructions are missing. I hooked up the transformer to test the engine and it does run forward and reverse. The reversing lever on the engine does need to be looked at. The headlight does work. I did not test the smoke. The connection point from the engine to the tender is strong and secure but I do not know how to test the tender for sound. All the car couplers read more
