Quality work is NEVER an accident, but the result of high intentions and a sincere effort. ZW's will operate most any train made today w/"add-ons"! Having serviced Lionel transformers for almost 30 years for some of the finest Chicago area hobby shops, you are assured of receiving a fully functional transformer! Selling and repairing transformers is my specialty! This is a extremely clean ZW both inside and out. is very quiet, not noiseless but quiet because I took the time to remove all coil laminations and re-install them properly as Lionel never did, doing this increases the coil efficiency, reduces the current draw, will operate cooler and will be operating trains for another 50 years! Note the heavier copper coil supports Lionel used on earlier ZWs! Both cases are almost blemish free but NO breaks or cracks! A NEW power cord w/"L" on the plug was installed and was routed as Lionel routed the leads to the coil to keep wires away from the moving contact arms as Lionel did, whether needed or not, 4 NEW carbon rollers were installed and were aligned to a clean secondary coil maintaining a "air gap" between the moving contact arms! (Rollers can deteriorate depending on prior storage)! The always "faithfull" bottom mount circuit breaker opens as per Lionel specs.! Any loose/broken terminal posts were replaced! Max. output is 20.7 volts indicating that all the coil laminations are clean, 26.2 volts when using whistle/horn because of the 16 amp diodes installed! Both whistle outputs are at high end of Lionel specs. after both sets of switch-shaft contacts were cleaned and adjusted and 16 amp. diodes installed that will "trigger" whistles/horns in locos easier for both post-war and electronic trains! The nameplate emblem is new and not original, the nameplate on rear of ZW was re-decaled to "freshen" it! Both outer handles are ORIGINALS and may have very minor blemishes! Any broken or non-conducting terminal posts were replaced! Graphics at terminal posts are easily readable! Paint on base plate IS original and is free of any bends! All functions work perfectly as ALL my transformers! This transformer was built to operate Lionel trains built prior to 1966. It will operate trains built today too however, some "add-ons" may be required to operate some electronic circuitry. (Note, circuit breakers are installed in transformers to protect the transformer, not your train. If operating newer electronic trains, I suggest installing a "in-line" fuse holder in one of the wires to track and install a FAST-BLOW fuse slightly larger than train will use in holder so that the delicate/costly circuit board in your loco is protected in case of mishap). These transformers were built to operate post-war trains, they will operate electronic trins too w/add-ons! The "repro" box shown is complete w/all 4 inserts and made of the same heavy cardboard Lionel used and is hard to tell from original, which most sellers won't supply! The instruction sheet is a COPY of a original! This box not only helps in getting your ZW to you undamaged but will keep your ZW "out of harms way" and clean when not in use and is available separately! I ALWAYS double box transformers when shipping! All my transformers are tested for performance after re-conditioning and again before shipping in case I missed something!
