London Underground Double £2 Sterling Silver Proof Set, one of only 1,500 double sets produced by the Royal Mint to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the London Underground in 2013. Comes in original presentation box with COA and c olour booklet with stories of the Underground. Both 150th Anniversary coins were developed with experts at Transport for London and the London Transport Museum, and designed by three of the UK’s leading designers. Edwina Ellis, creator of the ‘Roundel’ coin, is a pioneering printmaker and former ‘Art on the Underground’ artist. Her design has lettering in the Johnston font used in Underground stations and an edge inscription that reads MIND THE GAP. The ‘Train’ coin was designed by the internationally-acclaimed duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, best known for the design of the London 2012 Olympic Torch. Their coin shows the cab of a 1967 Victoria line Tube train and uses texture and perspectives to reflect the light and create a sense of movement. It carries an unusual edge inscription inspired by Harry Beck’s Tube map. It is rare for two circulating coins to celebrate a single theme, they are sure to delight coin collectors, Londoners and transport enthusiasts alike. PLACE YOUR BID NOW!
