I am offering for sale a stunning mens solid gold Longines wristwatch that dates to 1949. The solid 9ct gold case is fully hallmarked and in remarkable condition, showing virtually no wear, just the odd small mark. I would imagine this watch has been in storage for a long time and very rarely used. The lugs are very unusual, a lovely length which gives this beautiful watch a very elegant look. The inside of the case back shows a full set of hallmarks and show the case was made by Baume, who were also the Longines official agent for the U.K. at the time. It is also stamped H&S. There is a stunning engraving on the case back, giving this watch incredible provenance that ties in with all the other information on this watch. The engraving really adds a feel of quality to this watch as it was so well done, not just your average engraving, please view the photo. The crystal is also in near perfect condition, showing no obvious scratches or marks. The very rare and unusual dial is in lovely, completely original condition, showing some patina to validate the age and originality. It has stunning gold Roman Numerals at 12, 2, 4, (half at 6), 8 and 10, with gold dots to mark the hour positions in between. These are in fantastic bright condition which catch the light beautifully. The dial is signed 'Longines' and "Swiss Made'. There is a lovely sub second dial just above the 6 o'clock marker, the hand sweeps beautifully around the dial. The hands are all original and in remarkable condition. The 12.68z movement is in very good working order, keeping very good time and running strongly. It has been tested on a timing machine by my watchmaker and is running well within the expected parameters. The watch has been certified as genuine by the Longines museum and was invoiced on the 19.11.1949 to Baume & Co, the official Longines agent and also the makers of the case, as was common practice at the time. The watch is completed with a beautiful quality genuine leather strap finished in brown with a gold tone buckle. The strap can be changed how ever if the current strap isn't to your taste. The watch measures at 34mm wide excluding crown and is 42mm from lug to lug. The lugs are 18mm. To summarise this watch really is in outstanding condition for the age.
