OLD GATEWAY AND PAGODA ~ CHINA CITY ~ LOS ANGELES , real photo postcard No. 2737 by Quillen, ca. 1940. This very sharp, detailed real photo postcard shows the Old Gateway and Pagoda that were landmarks at CHINA CITY in Los Angeles, California during the 1930s and 1940s. Please see the detail scans, below . CHINA CITY was created after a decision by the City of Los Angeles to construct Union Station in the heart of the Old Chinatown . This forced Chinese Americans to relocate to CHINA CITY , which was located between Spring and Main Streets, and to the New Chinatown. The license plate on the coupe parked at right appears to be dated 1940. Postally unused, divided back, 3 3/8" x 5 3/8". EKC stamp box dates postcard to 1939-1950. Condition Very good condition with light corner wear, hairline corner bend in white margin at lower left, and faint 1/2" horizontal bend at right edge, one inch up from lower right corner.Please e-mail () with questions before placing bid.
