An original lot of 15 World War II vintage letters written to a Navy soldier Carroll Glenn Flanagan by his girlfriend Ethel Coty. Two or three are written to him by other people. The letters include the original envelopes which all have the address U.S.S. Bataan B Division. The following are some excerpts from the letters: 2/16/44 Hi My Dearest Darling: I'm sorry I didnt get a chance to write you last night, darling, but it seems I had a million things to do and I was tired so I went to bed early, thus I never got a chance to tell you how much I care. I received your very lovely Valentine and grand letters today and I want to thank you for both. I love my Valentine and you are very sweet....talking to you on Valentine's Day was the sweetest and most wonderful Valentine I could have ever wished for and it was so very wonderful to hear your voice again and know you are finally back after all these weeks. Oh, thank god, Dearest that you are back safe and sound.....As Ever And Always Your Loving Ethel 9/15/43 Hello Glenn Darling: Well, I'm back again in West Newton and I've been about twenty minutes. T is plenty for me to do but I'd rather write to you, do you mind? I've said Id never lie to you but I'd better not start now. The trip back was O.K. but, sweet, how I hate to be back ...As I'm sitting writing my teeth are chatering. This house is really cold and will take some time to warm up. Don't you want to keep me warm? I'd like to have you....As Ever and Always Ethel 11/5/43 Hi glenn Darling: At the present moment I'm sitting in your room writing this letter. The carpentier is fixing a window....I haven't yet to thank you for all the wonderful things you did for me while I was visiting you. I had a simply wonderful time and every thing was fun. We always seem to have a wonderful time dont we......tomorrow, evening I'm to attend the wedding and reception of another girl friend of mine and Al's. She is marrying a fellow in the Navy and she also is younger than I....As Ever and Always Ethel 11/19/43 Hi glenn Darling: How's every thing with you tonight? Are you perchance thinking about last Friday too. I cant get it out of my mind and I shall go to sleep tonight believing that you are as you were then....I can't look forward to seeing tomorrow. All I can do is hope that we are together real soon and pray that god will take care of you when I'm not able to. Enough of this for now but just know that I miss you very much and hope that you are happy.....As Ever and Always Ethel 11/16/45 Hi glenn Darlig: Just a few lines tonight before I turn in to let you know i'm thinking of you and am O.K. I couldnt get a letter in the mail for you tonight because of several things which i will tell you in a second.......I'm going Christmas shopping today in Waltham but at least I'll get a few more lines off to you....Speaking of Christmas shopping, etc. this year it is going to be a head ache for us Civilians.
