This auction is for a lot of 3 sweet but very played with poor vintage “talking” dolls by Mattel. (I put “talking” in quotes because none of these can talk now.) There are 2 Chatty Cathy dolls and 1 Singing Chatty doll included. I once thought I would collect these dolls and learn to repair and restore these, but I realize I am never going to get around to doing this, so I hope some collector can give them a good home. These girls are adorable and nostalgic, but please know that they are all fixer upper dolls or might be used for parts. I am not going to describe every little spot, stain or scrape on these girls- they all have some. If it is fairly noticeable, I will try to mention it, but otherwise know that all of these have prior evidence of use and age. Please ask questions if you are particularly interested in one doll. The dolls that are included here are: 1. A soft faced Chatty Cathy with dark blonde and blue eyes. You can still see her cute freckles. She has lost her teeth. About half of the eyelashes on her left eye are missing. She has what I believe is the first issue body because she has no markings on her back and has a cloth covered speaker on her chest. Her coloring isn’t as bad as some I have seen-- in that her arms and legs are not too far off the color of her body, but her body is peachier colored than her limbs that have a little grayish tone. Her hair is short- I am not certain that it has been cut-, but her hair needs help. It is missing quite a few plugs underneath in the back. There are numerous layers or broken off places. I feel sure you could make it lots cuter with a little TLC. Other than missing some eyelashes, her eyes are fine. They open and shut fine. Her pointer finger has some damage on it—probably a bite mark. She has a crack on the side of her body starting at the side seam but going about 1” onto her back. (I bet someone tried to open her, but don’t know for sure.) She has a crack at her crotch. I’ll bet this could be glued pretty easily, but I’ll let you do so. Chatty does not talk. In fact she has lost her pull string, so she would need real repair work to talk. Her arms and legs are swingy. 2. A soft faced Chatty Cathy with brunette hair and blue eyes. You can still see her cute freckles. She does have her teeth. Her eyes have issues and I am not sure what they are. The left eye likes to stay open, but you can manually close it. When you close it, the eyelid looks like it has a crack. Her left eye looks straight ahead and her right eye looks to the left, so she has vision issues, too. She has what I believe is the third issue body because she has an open speaker grill with an indentation circling the grill on her chest. Her back is marked Chatty Cathy/Patents Pending/ MCMXLX/ By Mattel Inc. /Hawthorne, Calif. and she has the Mattel trademark on her. There is a melt mark on her front by the grill and a tiny one on her tummy. Her head does not turn and seems to be glued on, so I assume her neck broke so someone glued on her head. Her coloring is not very good, in that her arms and 1 leg are whiter than her body. Her right leg isn’t great, but it is pinker than the other limbs. Her hair is short- I am not certain that it has been cut-, but her hair needs help. One section of hair underneath in the back is a slightly different texture than the rest, so I wonder if someone rerooted it (the color is perfect, but it feels slicker than the rest of her hair). I feel sure you could make it lots cuter with a little TLC. She has a slight crack at her crotch but I feel sure this could be glued easily. This Chatty does not talk but she does have her pull string. When you pull it, the string goes in very quickly and makes a loud noise but not talking. She would need repair work to talk. Her arms and legs are somewhat swingy, but she can stand unassisted and hold up her arms. I read that most Chatty Cathy dolls came with a pointed finger on her right hand, but this doll has the more rare open fingers on her right hand.
