Fabien was born in L'Isle-Jourdain in the French d'partement of Vienne. He is a self-taught figurative painter of the School of Paris who uses a modern form of pointillism. He paints in a realistic style and tries to capture colorful and often charming moments. Fabien has exhibited his work in most of the important Paris salon shows and has had one-man shows in many countries including France, USA, Japan, England, Germany. He began to show his work in the early 1950s in the Salon d'Automne and in 1953 exhibited in the Salon de la Jeune Peinture, of which he was elected president in 1964 and in 1965. In 1957 he was accorded the Prix Greenshields. As an artist, he was entirely self-taught. His paintings first gained traction in France, but their popularity soon spread across the globe. He exhibited in the United States, Japan, Germany, and England. The artist became famous for his realistic paintings, his charming subject matter, and his mastery of pointillism. In 1951, Louis Fabien began to show his work at the Salon d-Automne. By 1953, he was invited to show his work at the famous Salon de la Jeune Peniture where he was also named an official member. In 1959, he won the price at the first Paris Biennale which gained him widespread international exposure. In the same year, he was awarded the Green shields Prize, one of the most important awards in France. Pointillism is a painting technique involving a series of small dots. Each dot is a pure color, and the combination of dots created the desired color, shape, saturation, and feel of the painting. The technique was developed by George Seurat and Paul Signac in 1886 as a branch of Impressionism. At first, pointillism was mocked by art criticism, but as artists proved their abilities and pointillism stood the test of time the critics soon changed their minds. Divisionism and Neo-impressionism also are used to describe the technique. Pointillism relies heavily on the viewer to literally and figuratively connect the dots. It is highly technical, and it requires a keen understanding of the way in which the human brain processes color and shape in order to be successful. Although very few artists in the contemporary era could be described as Pointillists, we have seen the technique resurface throughout history. It can be seen in the work of its founders Signac, Seurat, and later in Fabien's work, and most recently in Andy Warhol's early art. Pointillism is a way to deconstruct the traditional pallet mixing of colors in art. It emphasizes texture and is most often used in oil painting. Although he is best known for his figurative work, Louis Fabien also painted a number of landscapes. In addition to being well known for his use of pointillism, Fabien is also well known for his images charming qualities and his impressive use of light. Today, Louis Fabien remains one of the most significant painters in history. His work remains popular throughout the world, and his work hangs in the collections of many private art collectors, museums, and public galleries. But Louis Fabien remains most appreciated by his home country of France, where the government owns many of his work and his art can be seen in many galleries and museums.
