SELECTED LETTERS H.P. LOVECRAFT 1st Edition The five volume complete set issued by Arkham House between 1965 and 1976. Comprised of 5 individual volumes which each collect letters written by Lovecraft, spanning the years from 1911 through 1937. A wonderful and increasingly rare complete set Volumes I and II are 2nd printings. The 2nd printings were each limited to 3,000 copies. Volumes III, IV, and V are 1st printings. Volume III was limited to 2,500 copies, while volumes IV and V were limited to 5,000 copies. The books are in good shape. Clean inside, pages are sharp, and bindings are pretty tight. The books sat on a shelf for most of their lives and were sparingly perused. However, they were moved on the shelves from time to time, which has resulted in their major flaw - some fraying and wear on the dust jacket edges. Volume I has a 1.5" tear on the dust jacket at the bottom near the spine. The wear is not horrible, but should be noted for such a rare set. There is also a hint of sun fading along the top edge of the dust jackets. The boards are pretty sharp except for volume III, where the top corner of the front board is bumped - not torn or curled, but a little wrinkled.
