Tuscany Book offers An original copper text engraving to illustrate a saying, dealt with in of one of Jacob Cats' works.This engraving is from a fragment of his collected works: Al de Werken van I. Cats Amsterdam: Schipper, 1655. Jacob Cats (1577-1660) studied and practiced law in Holland. His impassioned defense of a wretch accused of witchcraft brought him some renown. However, he is best known as a gifted poet and humorist, publishing many works, among them Emblemata (1618), Spiegel van den ouden en nieuwen Tijt (1632), etc."Father Cats", as he is fondly known to the Dutch people, gained many honors, among them being made "Keeper of the Great Seal" in 1648.
