RARE FIND! New Without Tags Vintage Luba Elianoff of New York sheet and pillowcase set, handmade of finest cotton with scalloped lace trim. Her NY Times obituary describes her as follows: "Luba Elianoff was a Latvian-born little old linen lady whose bearing was a bit too regal, whose spirit was a bit too firey and whose embroideries were a bit too elegant to be called that to her face. She died at the age of 96 and preferred to be called the Queen of Linens. She retired at age 86 and had shrunk in stature to an "unqueenly" full 50 inches, but during the four decades she designed and manufactured delicately embroidered towels, sheets and pillowcase,no one ever accused her of not charging queenly prices. She catered to those who routinely paid several hundred dollars for a set of sheets. At one store, a buyer once told her; "that's not a price. It's a telephone number!" Being offered is a set of pale peachy pink top sheet and two matching pillowcases. Cotton is wonderfully soft, seams are delicately stitched and flatfelled to lay with no bulk. Sheet is 88" wide and has wide scalloped white edging. Set is folded with original tissue and has some age discoloration that a soak in a fine Linen wash should remove.
