This is a new device recently invented for instrument builders, Luthiers and repair shops, to gauge the string spacing on four or eight string instruments...it can be used on all size necks and bridges & headstocks on many instruments..sometimes called "spider dividers"..if you have ever marked out the spacing on a nut you will be familiar with the difficulty of using a rule and having to calculate the spacing..this device divides the spaces quickly, automatically, and with precision....each one of these unique devices are hand made, consisting of 26 components (so this reflects in the price)..it covers widths from 1 inch on Nuts eg: Mandolins Ukuleles Violins etc: and can measure the spacing on a 4 inch wide bridge eg: Double bass...It is aso very useful when cutting a nut, so you can intermittently check that the nut file is cutting on centre and not drifting sideways.....Minimum outer pin pitch .750" Max approx: 4.375".
