N ice collectable U.S. model M1905 Bayonet for the US M1903 Springfield service rifles. It retains the matching and original Model 1905 leather over wood scabbard with early “Krag Rifle Style” single belt hanger that predates the later “Double Hook” system. Bayonet was manufactured at Springfield Armory and clearly marked S A with early Ordnance mark and bears the date 1906. Marked on the reverse side, US and 143577. Scabbard is unit marked “8” over “G” over “28” on the back. Also unit marked on the bayonet wood grip, faint stamped “G” over “10” over “50”. Full length 16 inch blade. Good edge. A few small dark spots on the blade. A small lightly pitted area near the tip on one side. A few small minor pits on the hilt and on the metal upper body of the scabbard. Leather is 100 years old and has shrunk and exposed the wood tip of the scabbard. Spring loaded bayonet latch works well and holds secure in the scabbard. This is not a reproduction item.
