This is a vintage, World War Two pattern, 1951 pattern, 1952 manufactured, M1944 / M1945 Cargo Pack. This is a WW2 pattern, made right after WW2 and right at the beginning of the Korean War. This is still in good shape! This is the official "PACK, FIELD, CARGO, M-1945" according to the military terms and the stamp inside the lid. This WW2 pattern bag also has the instructions sewn inside! See the pictures! This was made in 1952 by BOBARDUS-O-ROURKE , INC. This cargo / field bag is in very nice shape, it was (at most!) maybe issued and used / worn /carried by perhaps ONE soldier, ever so briefly, but it might still be UNISSUED! It has some shelf wear, it has a little white line on the bottom but it has no other marks, stamps, no serial numbers or unit marks, etc. This may be un-issued! This has the "US" on the front, still sharp and legible, I don't think this has ever been wet or washed. This bag is still very solid and serviceable. The inside rubberized lining is all t, and it is soft and pliable / flexible, even after 57+ years. This bag isn't "mint," because of the white line on the bottom and the fact that t is SOME wear to the dark finish on the tips of the straps. That's all the wear I can find! This is solid,and I would call it EXCELLENT CONDITION inside and outside. (Some might call this MINT-Y, but I don't want you to expect mint, crisp, never touched, never on a shelf for 50 years and then be disappointed.) This has very light wear, but the hardware looks nice and clean, and it is very solid. The interior rubber / rubberized cloth liner is still pretty soft and flexible. This WWII pattern/Korean War made pack is great and the canvas is very solid and serviceable, and it is really a cargo / field bag! In BAND OF BROTHERS you see some of these bags with the 101st Airborne men at the end of the series, from the battle in the Ardennes through Belgium and Germany. These came out mid-late war, not early war. (And of course, they used them up to the Korean War 5 years later.) The brass/metal hardware is nice, only light wear but no real corrosion. Great for infantry soldiers who had to lug all their ammunition and equipment...and their liberated wine or cognac! If you found some eggs or some bread you could pack it in with your GI socks and chow down later! Infantry carried these a LOT, but they were also used by other ground and airborne troops: paratroopers, engineers, combat medics, signal corps men / linemen, tankers and tank destroyers, cavalry, constabulary, and the many other ground troops and soldiers, artillery, ordnance, QM, etc. The armored tankers and TD men probably did not CARRY these a lot, but they could hang them from the outside of their armored vehicles or jeeps!
