MacPortable Model 5120 Kingston 3 meg RAM Memory CardAdditional Memory for the Apple Mac Portable Model 5120This memory card contains three (3) megs of RAM.It is installed in the RAM slot of the Portable.Apple first offered its groundbreaking Portable model 5120 in 1989. It was the first Apple Portable and came with 1 meg of RAM on the logic board with another two slots to add additional memory (See the jpegs of the slots. Note the sockets are not the same). One memory slot is marked "RAM" slot, the second is marked "PDS" or processor direct slot, which takes various cards including additional memory. The memory at auction here is from that 1989-1990 period and it is used not new. You can see it is RAM slot memory from its narrower plug.A Warning about Multiple Memory CardsPutting extra memory in both the RAM and PDS slots can be tricky inasmuch as not all memory is compatible when using both motherboard slots. And to make things worse, the later version of the Portable, model 5126, uses pseudostatic RAM not static RAM (they are not compatible) which is why the RAM for sale here is offered ONLY for the MacPortable model 5120.You Will Really Like More MemoryOne meg of RAM (on the logic board) is not really enough to run the Portable software that is available.
