This is just a lovely thing. For your consideration, a beautiful Florentine gilt wood triptych of the Madonna and Child, flanked by angels. These were often brought back as souvenirs by travelers to Italy in the 1930's -1960's. The case is beautifully painted in greens and gilt with elaborate punch work and incised decoration on all sides. The back is particularly detailed, speaking to the quality of the craftsmanship and the regard in which these images were held. The picture of the Madonna and the flanking depictions of angels, are prints which have been pasted to the frame, then varnished. Over the varnish, gilding has been applied to the halos, the angels wings, and other areas for enhancement. Measures 15" x 11.25" closed, 23" x 15" fully open. All in good condition. Some age apparent in the gilding, which happens over time, and a small scratch on the right front door, but negligible, and does not detract from the beauty or artistry of this lovely icon.
